Do It Yourself

Andy Warhol, Do It Yourself (Landscape) 1962 acrylic, pencil and Letraset on linen, 69-3/4 x 54-1/8 inches Museum Ludwig Cologne. Donation Ludwig.

What is so fantastic about masterpieces is that there are so few of them but they always deliver, each time you see them. I have always loved the Warhol paint by number works because they represent pop art in the machine made mass, in the bright colors, in the childlike gesture... And while I adore Warhol's later work in which he experimented with diamond dust and glow in the dark paint, for me this was his gift to us, telling us to just do it ourselves.
